Senior Wellness Program

Your dog or cat becomes “senior” between 6 and 9 years of age depending on the size and breed. Similar to the routine wellness exams of younger animals, the examination is a key tool to allow us to practice preventative medicine rather that crisis medicine for your pet. However as they get older, we recommend additional testing to monitor their health. Remember each year of your pet’s life is equal to 4-7 years of your life and as your get older many things change over 7 years as they do in 1 year of your pet’s life. We have created a Canine Senior Wellness Bundle and a Feline Senior Wellness Bundle to reflect the physiological differences and needs of each species.

Canine Senior Wellness Bundle

Physical Examination: Although your pet may not be able to talk to us, the physical exam is how the Doctor interprets what your pet is saying to us. He uses all of his senses to help diagnose abnormalities. Examples include sight (looking for irregularities), hearing (listening to the heart or lungs), smell (bad teeth, ears or skin) or touch (palpating joints, abdominal contents, lymph nodes, skin ,etc.

Testing

CBC (Complete Blood Count): Helps detect signs of anemia, infection or tick born diseases

Chemistry Profile: Checks the internal organs for disease such as the liver, kidney or pancreatic disease. Shows evidence of diabetes or chronic inflammatory conditions.

Urinalysis: Tells about possible kidney disease, urinary tract infections or diabetes
